[...] Collins Australia in association with the Australian War Memorial. This is the 1987 reprint, with corrections., Hard bound in dust jacket, 6 1/2 x 9 1/2, VG/VG CONDITION, xx, 857 pages, numerous illus. and maps, index. The introduction to the reprinted edition is by Alec Hill. ---------------------------------------- and El Alamein, a reprint of the third volume in the army series of Australia In the War of 1939-1945, vividly describes the experiences and achievements of Australians involved in the fighting in north Africa in 1941-42. Concentrating on the activities of the 9th Australian Division, it recounts how this initially under-trained and under-equipped force withstood the assaults of the Afrika Korps, and the famous siege at Tobruk. Under General Montgomery the division later played a significant part in the eventual defeat of Rommel and the German and Italian armies at El Alamein. As well as recording the role of Australians, Tobruk and El Alamein examines the influence of military leaders and the effects of political disputes between the Allies on the outcome of these difficult and vital campaigns.
